The Engineering Centre (TEC)

Developing Future Skills

Technical skills development has always been a key part of the site's history, with the facility serving manufacturing and engineering training needs under various names throughout its lifetime.

In September 2021, the facility was relaunched as The Engineering Centre (TEC) by Calderdale College, creating a dedicated environment for Apprenticeships and technical education.

Today, TEC supports the development of future engineers, manufacturers and technical professionals through Apprenticeship and T Level pathways, helping employers build the workforce needed for the future.

Through its partnership with Calderdale College, TEC continues to play an important role in addressing regional skills needs and supporting the next generation of talent.

Industry 4.0 Digital Hub

Supporting Innovation and Adoption

Opened in June 2024, the Industry 4.0 Hub represents the next stage in the evolution of the WYMS site.

As the first Brighouse Town Deal project to reach delivery, the hub was developed through a partnership between Calderdale College, West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services, the Textile Centre of Excellence, Calderdale Council and the Brighouse Town Board.

Created to help businesses understand and embrace emerging technologies, the hub provides opportunities to explore digitalisation, automation, AI and Industry 4.0 principles within modern manufacturing environments.

By helping organisations develop skills, knowledge and confidence around new technologies, the Industry 4.0 Hub supports innovation, productivity and future competitiveness across the sector.
