Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

West Yorkshire Manufacturing Services (WYMS) is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals participating in our training and education programs, including children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We believe that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and that all members of our organisation must share this commitment.

Calderdale College who leases part of our building and provide education facilities for young people have their own specific safeguarding policy and arrangements and though the two organisations regularly work collaboratively and interact they on a day-to-day basis separated by a secure access system.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all trustees, staff, volunteers, contractors, and individuals who engage with our organisation. It encompasses all activities and services offered by WYMS and extends to online and offline interactions.

3. Principles

3.1. Promotion of Welfare: We are dedicated to promoting the welfare and well-being of all individuals involved in our programs.

3.2. Prevention: We will take steps to prevent harm by being vigilant and proactive.

3.3. Reporting: We encourage the reporting of any safeguarding concerns, and we will act promptly and appropriately.

3.4. Support and Training: We will provide support and training to staff, volunteers, and trustees to help them recognize and respond to safeguarding concerns.

3.5. Confidentiality: We will treat all safeguarding concerns confidentially, sharing information only with those who need to know in accordance with UK legislation.

4. Key Definitions

  • Child: Anyone under the age of 18.
  • Young Person: A person aged between 18 and 25.
  • Vulnerable Adult: An individual aged 18 or over who may be unable to protect themselves against abuse, harm, or exploitation due to physical or mental health issues, disability, or other factors.

 

 

 

5. Reporting Concerns

5.1. Any concerns or suspicions about the welfare or safety of individuals must be reported immediately to Mark Lewis, CEO – Kirkdale House, Armytage Road Brighouse HD6 1QF

5.2. Individuals may also report concerns to external agencies, such as the local authority or the police, if they believe immediate intervention is required.

6. Response to Concerns

6.1. WYMS will work with our partners Calderdale College to ensure the effective adoption of safeguarding protocols, follow established procedures for handling safeguarding concerns, including conducting risk assessments, involving relevant authorities, and providing support to affected individuals.

6.2. WYMS will cooperate fully with external agencies, including where applicable statutory child protection agencies, and will comply with legal requirements concerning disclosure of information.

7. Confidentiality

7.1. WYMS recognises the importance of maintaining confidentiality and will only share information on a need-to-know basis to safeguard individuals.

8. Support for Staff and Volunteers

8.1. WYMS will provide support for staff and volunteers involved in safeguarding issues, including access to training and debriefing.

9. Review and Monitoring

9.1. This safeguarding policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
