We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician to join our team in Huddersfield. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to start a career in engineering and manufacturing while gaining practical workplace experience and working towards a recognised Level 3 qualification with Kirklees College.
About the role
This is a hands-on technical support role within a growing engineering and manufacturing business.
You will work alongside experienced colleagues and learn how to support engineering and manufacturing activities, including:
Role Activities
- Reading and interpreting engineering data, drawings and documentation.
- Supporting engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Helping with production planning, scheduling and workflow.
- Producing technical documentation, data and reports.
- Using technical software to support processes, products or equipment.
- Carrying out quality checks, inspections and tests.
- Helping identify and solve engineering or manufacturing problems.
- Supporting product development, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Communicating technical information to colleagues and other stakeholders.
About the apprenticeship
The role is linked to the Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship delivered by Kirklees College.
You will study towards the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technologies.
College attendance is expected to be: Year 1 - two days per week; Years 2 and 3 - one day per week. Attendance will be at Kirklees College’s Engineering Centre in Huddersfield.
The apprenticeship is assessed through a work-based report with presentation and questioning, plus an interview supported by a portfolio of evidence.
What we are looking for
- GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, or equivalent.
- A strong interest in engineering, manufacturing or technical problem-solving.
- Good attention to detail.
- A practical, organised and reliable approach.
- A willingness to learn and take feedback.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Confidence using computers and a willingness to learn technical software.
- A commitment to working safely and professionally.
Helpful but not essential
Experience in CAD, design technology, practical engineering, workshop activities, manufacturing, robotics, or process engineering would be helpful, but is not essential.
