Profile

What first motivated you to become a trustee of WYMS?
I feel passionate about the need to bridge the gap between skills and employment. Schools and colleges often don’t prepare youngsters well enough for time in employment or highlight the benefits of on-the-job learning. Anything I can do to promote the advantages of a career in manufacturing and the value of practical learning feels incredibly worthwhile.

What do you feel makes WYMS an important organisation to support?
WYMS creates that critical link between manufacturers and skills providers. Manufacturing in Britain must gain strength to secure its future, and part of that is investing in the next generation of skilled people. WYMS also provides a valuable support hub for SMEs, giving them a stronger collective voice at a time when smaller businesses are often overlooked.

How do you think the Board helps shape the future direction of WYMS?
We have a varied skill set on the Board but a shared passion to improve our offering and back our supporters. Our diverse backgrounds bring perspective and balance when shaping strategy and vision, ensuring WYMS continues to deliver meaningful impact for the manufacturing community.

What would you say to someone considering becoming a trustee for a local charity?
Do it and give something back to build future strength - it’s hugely rewarding!
